Golf Ireland – Useful Tips for Golfers


 

Golf has become one of the fastest growing outdoor activities in Ireland. With over 450 golf clubs, Ireland has 30% of the links courses in the world, as well as top championship Parkland courses. Choose from links courses where the fresh sea breeze invigorates your game or play an inland jewel with interesting lake or river shots.

Golf For Ladies

There never has been a better time for women to enjoy the unique Irish golf experience. Ladies golf in Ireland is at an exciting crossroad. In the last few years the games popularity with women has exploded, no doubt helped by the return of the professional game in the form of the ladies Irish Open and the promise of a memorable spectacle when the Solheim Cup comes to Irish shores for the first time in 2011.

Handicap Certificates

Some courses will need to see your current handicap certificate, please be sure to bring this along with you. If in doubt please check with the Kenny Tours The handicap limit at most clubs is 24 men and 36 ladies.

Caddies

Caddies are available at most Golf Clubs  It is advisable to book them in advance (if needed) and we will do this for you. There are single and double bag carriers and they will add immensely to the enjoyment of your round of golf.

Pull Carts

Are available at all Golf Ireland courses.

Electric Buggies

Many inland courses do have electric buggies and a few links courses. It is advisable to pre book any electric carts needed, we will do this for you.

Dress Code

Soft spikes are mandatory on most courses. Jeans and non golfing tee shirts are not permitted. Smart casual is the accepted uniform for golfers. Some clubs do require a jacket and tie after 7.00pm.

Weather

Ireland enjoys a temperate climate, which is ideal for golfers. However, it is advisable to pack your waterproofs as rain and sunshine are all part of the Irish climate.

Sunset/Sunrise

Ireland has a warm temperate climate due mainly to the influence of the Atlantic Gulf Stream, consequently it does not suffer from extreme temperatures experienced by many other countries at similar latitudes. Golf can be played all year round but (high season)  May to September is highly recommended.
